GOOGLE DRIVE FILE REQUEST GUIDE

How to create a Google Drive file request link.

Create a simple upload link for a Google Drive folder, so people can send you files without seeing the folder or signing in to Google.

THE PROBLEM

Google Drive can share a folder, but it does not create a true file request.

A shared-folder link is built for collaboration: people need access and may be able to view or edit what is already there. A file request is different: it gives every sender one task — add files to your chosen destination.

A BETTER WAY TO COLLECT FILES

Connect Drive, choose a folder, and share one upload-only page instead of a shared workspace.

PRACTICAL GUIDE

Use the right workflow for the files you need to collect.

1. Choose the folder that should receive files

Create a project, client, or event folder in your Google Drive. It stays private: people receiving the link will not get folder access.

When you create a Drop, select that folder as the destination. DropToDrive uses the connected owner’s Drive account to deliver incoming files there.

2. Share a request page, not an Editor link

Send the generated Drop link by email, chat, or QR code. The sender opens a focused upload page instead of Google Drive.

  • No Google account for the sender
  • No access to browse existing files
  • Optional folder name for organising each sender’s files

FAQ

Questions people ask before sending files.

Can I make a Google Drive folder upload-only?

Google Drive does not provide an upload-only permission for a normal shared folder. A DropToDrive link opens a separate upload page, so senders cannot browse the destination folder.

Do I have to create a Google Form?

No. Google Forms can collect file uploads, but it is not designed for large files or a direct folder-delivery workflow. A Drop is made specifically for receiving files in Drive.

Can I stop the request after a deadline?

Yes. Pause or delete a Drop immediately from the dashboard, or let its active period end automatically.
