GOOGLE DRIVE STORAGE & OWNERSHIP
Why uploads to a shared Google Drive folder use the sender’s storage.
A shared folder does not automatically make you the owner of uploaded files. Learn how DropToDrive receives files in the owner’s Drive instead.
THE PROBLEM
A shared folder keeps the uploader as the owner.
In a personal Google Drive shared folder, files added by another person usually belong to that uploader and count toward their storage. That can block large client deliveries even when your Drive has space.
A BETTER WAY TO COLLECT FILES
DropToDrive uploads through the connected owner’s Drive, so the file is created in your account and uses your available Drive storage.
- Upload-onlySenders cannot browse your Drive folder.
- No Google accountPeople can upload from a simple web page.
- Made for big filesFiles are sent directly to your connected Google Drive.

FAQ
Questions people ask before sending files.
Why is the sender’s Google Drive getting full?
Google generally treats the account that uploaded a file as its owner in a normal shared folder, so the file counts toward that account’s storage quota.
Does a Google Shared Drive work differently?
Yes. Shared Drives are a Google Workspace feature with shared ownership. DropToDrive is useful when you use a personal Drive or need a simple external upload link.
Who owns files sent through a Drop?
The files are uploaded to the Google Drive account connected by the Drop owner, into the folder chosen for that Drop.
